My workstation box is Slackware 10, and our web servers are upgrading from RH9 to FC2. In a sensible situation this would be backward. :D

So are you trying to say you prefer slack10?

Only for my personal taste. I've been using Slack for a while - I'm used to it. I haven't used Fedora until today.

I guess he/she is trying to say he/she prefers slack 10 over fc2. Maybe because its a little faster than fc2.

Only due to my personal experience with each. I'm a compile from source kinda guy, whereas FC likes RPMs - although I have to admit YUM makes the process much easier!

yes i know, i used slackupdate it took me a while before i could figure it out. yum is easier but can also have its issues from time to time....i like to compile too but i so used to rpm base distros that i prefer them more....

Afair slackware also has an advanced package management,so you could also compile everything in Fedora without problems.

I know. I'm typing this from the gentoo system I finally got working just perfect. Atleast for now. I'll probably mess something up sooner or later.

I was thinking about it, but I don't have an extra box to test it on just yet.
As far as compile only, I do that with just about everything - despite Slack's package system (which works pretty well, I might add!).
