Can the avatar size be increased to at least 75x75? its too small and some of the avatars when resized they look pretty crappy.

My personal respone is a big no. We want pages to load quick. You'll have to live with the resizing.

75x75 is not a big jump in size as long and the file size remains the same but then again its only a suggestion....

As I always say, good luck with the admods.
A size limitation makes sense because there would be no lose in speed while allowing for slightly larger, more legible avatars.
I personally just disable avatars and sigs to just deal with the problems, and it speeds things up. Plus I cannot stand animated avatars. This includes Ug's, but his is slow so its not as distracting. Anyway I don't see it anymore, so problem solved.

As for an avatar size increase I can't really see the need. You are free however to convince me of the advantages of some extra pixel space.

From the Avatar section of the control panel:Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 60 by 60 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller). It obviously does comply. If his was bigger, then he wouldn't be able to upload it. Simple.

Ug, I've just copied off the Avatar section of the User CP:

Your old avatar was not a distracting animation in any way. One would hardly notice any movement.
Your new one is cool as well. ;)
Avatars with a load of animation including complete scene changes are very distracting. The eye should be allowed to focus naturally on the text of the thread, not get drawn away by some movie clip running on the side.

I apologise then. I'll get Ewdi on the case - it should be 60 by 60.

I think that 50x50 avatars are sweeter and looks nicer than larger ones. You just have to find one you like and then use it for a long time. There's no need to change it all the time. So if you have already found one 50x50 avatar you like, I don't see any future problems.
So the only problem is to just find one 50x50 avatar. It's just one time searching. It takes some time, but then you can use it for a long time.

This forum system bypass admin no matter what, it's not my intention to be using 60X60 exect, the software itself has preset admin with the most power in all part of the forum including attachment upload and etc, and sorry, no up size, 50X50 is all i will give.
I dont see the need for me to increase it. This is final decision.
As I always say, good luck with the admods
and superbnerd, stop flaming admods, i'm getting really tired of this, i got no problem with you but everytime i see your post related to admods, it made me feels you are tending to play offensive sarcasm against admods, i'm really tired of those attitude in this forum. I respect everyone in this forum and i expect the same thing from others.
I take suggestions and the one it's good for the community i would do it, else throw it out.
I'm paying for bandwidth in this forum and it's not cheap buying good co-location line, i dont use cheap line like cogent, we use Level 3 and verio which cost me more money as we used up more bandwidth, consider other aspect and dont be selfish, this forum is not commercial venture, the banners ads doesnt even covers 30% of the expenses!

i know bud, i mean i like to hear suggestions, it's nice to know what to improve, if bandwidth usage wasnt so high i dont really mind actually.

I know you take suggestion. Hell, you changed the forum favicon - thanks. Its just like when it was suggested to increase the PM limit. Its not that it's a bad thing(tm) that the admods use discretion when it comes to forum changes. Otherwise it might become unstable.

These Gimp quickie howtos (http://gimp.org/tutorials/Lite_Quickies/) should help in avatar resizing. :)
Think of the size limit as a challenge. How much can you say about yourself in a small space?

thanks jman but i am able to resize with gimp it just that the it loses the sharpness after i do it.

EDWI.......
Of two avatar requirements(graphical and filesize) The second requirement is this.....
"or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller)"
The whole point is for forum speed, correct? Why not constrain the size at.... let's say 10KB but give more graphical room like 75x75 or 100x100 pixels. The profile box and name is still bigger so that won't affect the size of the left column.
If you took a poll, I'm sure posters would prefer graphical size vs grapical quality. With images as small as these are, quality really is moot.(yes, I realize that this may not be up to popularity) Just offering an option.
I'm sure most would agree this is a fair trade off. Don't you?
