I am converting over to fedora from Sco Unix 5.0 and need to know how to
setup a serial printer.

When I used printer config there was no /dev/ttyS0 just the /dev/lp0 as a choice for locally connected printer.

I thought fedora was suppose to build the serial ports if it saw them on your machine.

under Sco Unix I would do the following:

mkdev serial --- and set up my serial port

then

mkdev lp --- and set up a printer using the serial device I had just created.

How does this work in Fedora? I have the Complete Refernece RED HAT Enterprise Linux & Fedora Edtion by Mc Graw Hill publisher and all it says about installing serial is
use mknod and see a HOWTO readme file under /usr/share/doc/HOWTO which isn't there.

the man pages give no clue as to how to really use mknod.

Help!

make sure your printer is supported www.linuxhardware.net and www.linuxprinting.org

I believe the device should be available.

The printer config tool has a Custom Device option to enter what device you want. Try the one that worked before.

Which printer?

It's supported as the print config file has it as an option to select.

I think the main problem is the serial port isn't configured right.

How do I check this?
