View Full Version : Nautilus freezing - Can you try ... ?

Nautilus has been freezing on me as I go through the folders. Can someone try to access /usr/share/man/man1 and tell me if they have the same problem? I usually go into nautilus by clicking the Home icon on the desktop, using the up arrow twice to get to the File System, then clicking /usr, then /share, then /man. At this point one CPU core goes to 100% and it takes a while for the folders to appear, then when I click on /man1 nothing happens (actually it's frozen before I click on /man1), Nautilus is frozen with one CPU core still at 100%. I can click the "X" in the upper right hand corner and after awhile it says that man is not responding and I'm able to force quit at that point.
I filed a bugzilla, but when asked to supply a backtrace, I couldn't, at least using gdb. It claims I have missing debuginfos, but, when I try to install them it tells me that they are already installed.

I can't seem to get good info to give to the BZ. I'm wondering if I'm the only one having this problem, because I'm wondering if there is a problem with my install (from Alpha RC3). I see other errors regarding Nautilus especially centered around dbus, or ones that show Nautilus is just not starting, but, noone has reported the freezing problem. Well, anyone want to try?

TIA

Hi Ge9,
i have a CPU targeted with 1.8 GHz, using Nautlius for now i open only the folder with no more than 40 files, otherwise it would take to much time to render all its content.

Another problem i found, is during the umount of disk partition, or the eject of CD/DVD: Nautilus crashes.

I see you got a gdb session attached to the bug report, GoinEasy9. Mine locks up when I click on man. :( Also, I tried to add an application in Firefox, and it took about 5 minutes to show the files in /usr/bin. Something seems to be broken when displaying large directories.

Thanks dd, misery loves company. My first attempt at getting a backtrace with gdb, not exactly successful. At least I know that it's just not my install. I can concentrate elsewhere.

Nautilus not responding

link to this item - Bugzilla: #626108

When viewing the content of large directories (>500 files and with medium CPU), the CPU gets 100% resources and Nautilus seems freezing, taking much time (~ minutes) to visualize its content. The same happens when viewing these huge directories with others applications (e.g. firefox).

Just updated F14 after a week and lockup in Nautilus still exists. New Nautilus came in tonight, I was hopeful. <sigh>
