3. Office Suite
OpenOffice (I've decided myself on this one) yeah like i have a choice

4. Email client
Evolution 2 or sylpheed or Thunderbird

5. Messenger
GAIM or Kopette

6. Video Player
Xine or Mplayer

Okay, i need the community to help on this decision.

1. Window Manager :
GNOME - XFCE
//Gnome rules ;)
2. Browser:
FireFox
//even though I use Mozilla, I think firefox is the better choice here.

3. Office Suite
OpenOffice (I've decided myself on this one) yeah like i have a choice
//Good choice.

4. Email client
Evolution 2
// Maybe Thunderbird? But Evolution is a good decision

5. Messenger
GAIM
// I don't use it very much, but I never heard the name of the other IM ;)

6. Video Player
Xine or Mplayer
//hard decision. I personally use xine, but mplayer is also not bad. And there is also vlc, that plays a lot of stuff. I can't decide :(

//P.S.
my 1,111st posting

*celebrate*

1. Gnome - XFCE
2. Firefox
3. Open Office
4. Evolution ( I don't use either, but Thunderbird is consistent with firefox while Evolution is consistent with gnome, which is probably more important)
5. Gaim (of course)
6. Mplayer

Since RH is (basically) a Gnome-based distribution, I'd say Gnome. But that's being logical and rational - my personal fave is KDE...

I think superbnerd suggest the "right" packages.

I think the whole point of a fedora live cd is to show off fedora without installing it, which again means to use the defaults for Fedora Core desktop install.

1. GNOME
2. Mozilla suite installed, but hidden. Epiphany as default browser (like in Core 3).
3. The bluecurved OpenOffice.org
4. Evolution 2, it integrates so well in the gnome desktop, and it's the default for Core.
5. Gaim
6. Videoplayer should be totem+gstreamer or helixplayer, as this is the video player included in Core 3. If you want something else, use totem+xine. Mplayer is a good player, but it doesn't integrate in the desktop very well.

1. Gnome
2.Mozilla
3.Open office
4.Evolution
5. Gaim
6. Mplayer

I think this combo would have the most appeal to ms users and still be functional for the more experienced.

3. open office
4. Evoulution
5. Gaim
6. hmmm not partial either is fine

Arent most live cds out there using KDE? if so it would be nice to have one with gnome and since your showing ppl a sample of fedora then using gnome would be more logical since its defualt and kinda what fedora is built around for look.

One quick newb question. I have someone telling me that you say gnome as g nome is this correct ?

Absolutely. There is no point doing this project if your not using the defaults. If you have some more space then sure throw in some extras. But otherwise, you want to go for the defaults - these will show Fedora in its true light.

no, the reason i'm making this livecd is for my traveling needs :)
Not only for demonstration :) i like to have something handy on my pocket when i travel to a place where windows is the only choice :)

Indeed, people will get a feel for the capability of fedora even if it has a few extras like xmms-mp3 and mplyer. I would much rather have a functioning full feature live cd than a pristine demo.

Keep up the good work.

1. GNOME - XFCE (I think most are agreed here)

2. FireFox (de facto upcoming standard)

3. OpenOffice

4. Evolution 2 or Thunderbird (I don't think it will matter much because it is after all a liveCD: why check your messages to have them deleted when you restart)

5. GAIM (no question here)

6. Mplayer (supports more formats and is slightly more useable (Espescially with mplayerplug-in installed in firefox)

I may be a bit late chiming in here, but i just found this thread, and am very excited about it.

my choices:

Environment:
Gnome (less of a resource hog than kde, so it will be more portible to older systems)

Browser:
Firefox

OOo or... OOo!:
OOo is gOOod

Email client:
Thunderbird!!!!!

Messenger:
if at all possible, amsn, if not, any program that supports the msn protocol
mplayer (without any gui (who needs it, its just ugly, and if you use xmms-mplayer plugin, it cam be controlled through xmms, bringing me to my next choice....))

random other stuff:

Important to me:
xmms!, gimp, apache httpd

other suggestoins that would be nice:

- fluxbox
- booting through grub (so i can use the grub console for restoring defunct systems etc)
- qtparted or similar (for easy partition editing when system wont boot)
- samba client of some sort
- wine
- adesklets (its like gdesklets but smaller footprint)
- cowsay!!!!!! :p..... acctually no, please dont

also: is there any webpage for this project, or other means of keeping track on whats happening with it?
and any clue on what the customizability might be (incase you add evolution instead of thunderbird?)?

Other packages:
-QTParted and/or GParted
-GRUB (LILO sucks)
-GPLFlash
