I have a F12 system with a M4A785TD-M EVO motherboard, which has the ATI HD 4200 IGP and AMD 785G/SB710 Chipset. I have the latest ATI proprietary drivers installed from RPMFusion.

The computer is hooked up to a TV via HDMI and the system is used mainly as a media center with XBMC.

About 75% of the time everything works fine, but every once and a while the TV detects the computer source as a DVI connection and therefore sound no longer is played by the TV. The TV is a 37" Dynex 1080p HDTV.

I am unsure if the issue I am encountering stems from the computer or from the TV (or a combination of both) and I am unsure of a procedure that would narrow it down. I have a PS3 connected to the TV via HDMI and have no sound issues with it, which causes me to lean more towards a computer issue.

The only way to get sound working again that I have found is to reboot the computer. This has worked every time, but is annoying as it takes a couple minutes to do so. I have tried restarting X, but the TV still sees it as a DVI source.

I am looking for guidance on how to properly troubleshoot this as well as looking for an interim solution on how to quickly get HDMI sound working if the connection initially is thought to be a DVI connection. Ultimately a solution to ensure the connection is always found as an HDMI source would be nice.
