AC97 Audio Not Working

Hello,

The sound system was working,with Fedora Core 1, properly prior to installation of Test 1 .

I have been trying with little success to resolve missing sound.

I have the latest kernel and the latest system-config-soundcard.

This utility finds the onboard device;
VIA Technologies
VT8233/A/8235 AC97 Audio Controller
Module: snd-via82xx

Test does not provide any audible result.

I have altered aumix to have 100% volume and 100% speaker.

No sound

The sound did work...don't know why..for a while with an earlier kernel but after reboot it did not work

The sound worked perfectly with FEDORA 1 .

I am not yet comfortable with the concepts of modprobe which appears, in some threads elsewhere, to be a potential solution.

I have run out of ideas..anyone had this problem and found a solution?

Hmm so you are using FC2 Test 1 right? In that case you will probably be better off using alsa to get your sound. Try running (from root) a /sbin/lsmod command and posting that here, if there are several entries with a snd-whatever then try running alsamixer (just run that command) and try unmuting your channels. If there aren't any of those snd-* entries then try doing a /sbin/modprobe snd-via82xx and then running alsamixer.

Most likely you have to set the volumes with alsa mixer to get them to work. Try that and let us know how things work out.

The attachment states what lsmod and alsamixer had to say.

I must admit that after going back into alsamixer..no apparent change made and then ..presto changeo..I got some sound albeit at a low volume and very scratchy.
Speakers are powered and at full volume..


Perhaps the changes to alsamixer are not "sticking"? But why the low scratchy volume? some other settings that have escaped me?

Do you have this in your /etc/modules.conf to save and restor the alsamixer settings?

post-install snd-card-0 /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove snd-card-0 /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || :


Also, don't forget to page right to unmute all channels unless you have not already done so.

I have now added the code that you mentioned and I also discovered that there are more settings to play with by paging right in the terminal view when alsamixer is running..particularly the VIA settings.

I exited alsamixer and no change. Went back in and the settings seem to be the same so I changed them again....sort of like where is the
save these settings option in alsamixer.

I changed them again and then went back in to see if they had stuck..they had.

Clicked on something that would make noise and I got blasted

Those not entirely visible to the unknowing settings made the difference !!

Did not see an X version anywhere and the gnome volume control seems to be stuck with gst-mixer of which there does not appear to be a program on the system.

So.. Thanks for your help and now I must make some adjustments to make the levels more consistent.

I have installed RHEL6 Beta version in ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 motherboard but there is no audio working.
If I play music a message appear "Audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC662 rev1 Analog) not working".
Please help me to retify this issue.
