I have a System with a wintv bttv Hauppauge bt878 and FC2. The problem is that every w4l programs, such as xawtv or tvtime start video but no sound at all. I test my video card under winzozXPee and it works ok. I tried to rise all my mixer values, but nothing changed. All other sound sources (PCM, CD, Mic, etc.) work ok. I thank anyone for any suggestion.

Hereunder my system specifications.
Tnx in advance

I got my card working without issues...

I open alsamixer and unmute the Video and that's it.

Is your TV Card audio jack plugged into your sound card ?

We have two similar systems too!! :). I dunno.. I will make more tests, but I hear no sound. Yes, the bttv card is plugged into Line-in of integrated sound card on the MoBo.
The stuff work under winz, under linux work everthing but audio.

Thank anyway for your answer.

A suggestion? I ran audio from the DVD and VHS to the line in on the Sound card seperately.

Never mind. I just realized I was running a different OS the last time I used my TV card.

Well, I am running FC2 on its default kernel (2.6.5-1) and having the same problem as many other people. Someone claimed in another group that bttv card is not good (line in not used??) with FC2. When I boot on windowsXp, wintv-radio (BT878 card) works fine. On linux video is fine but no audio. I tried all possible control on alsamixer (sound control)..all unmuted. no luck. and I start believing that bttv is screwed up in FC2. One person earlier claimed that he unmuted the line in and it starts working. Unfortunetly he is running 2.6.6 kernel and cannot compare. He donot prefer to recompile the kernel unless necessary, but may try it if no other option. Here are some system detail: FC2 with kernel 2.6.5-1.358, P42.8GHz e prescott processor, nvidea FX 5500 256 MB video card, Abit IS7 motherboard, Hauppauge wintv-radio tvtuner card (878 chipset), integrated AC'97 sound card with driver snd-intel8x0. My other applications (like mplayer etc) play sound/audio and so assumed to be configured. Windows play the tv applications and so line-in cable is also correct.
Here is relevent information from lspci:

etc.......
It loads the drivers, but no audio is coming while playing in tvtime.
Let me know if some one knows that bttv driver is bad with FC2? How can I fix it?
Do I need to recompile the kernel (new 2.6.8?) or there is a simpler method? If anyone gets the tvtime working with FC2 with its kernel? Any suggestion is appreciated. thanks.

Yup, by default the audio mixer's line-in settings are set at 0 volume. I have it working in FC2 now and that's all it took. I have also been using TV Time Television Viewer for the video and it works quite nicely once you tweak the settings a little. :)

line in is not muted. I double checked it. Are you using the same kernel as mine (2.6.5-1)?

If one recompile the kernel, will there be any problem with existing software. Will the newly compiled kernel module will overwrite the old modules?

Ok. I'm sorry for my previous and unfinished message, but I was in Malaysia with an unstable connection, and credit was over

I just solved the problem in this way: I ran "gnome-alsamixer" and I simply unchecked the "Line-In As Surround" checkbox.

This did the trick!

Hope this help.
