Hi all - I just tried to install Fedora 13 but after the log on count down I just get a blank screen - nothing else. The disk is still loading but no screen action at all. My graphics card is Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE.
Fedora 12 works fine. Any suggestions?

Can you get to a console (Ctrl-Alt-F2), login as root and then check the log files in /var/log?

I believe there is a novueau driver problem with 6100 series cards, try installing the nvidia driver.

Ok, I did Ctrl+Alt+F2 and got to the Boot menu. I tabbed on Boot and the boot sequence came up - I changed "quiet" to "nomodeset" and the live cd booted up just fine. Here's the /var/log:

%G%G Welcome to Fedora

If I install after using the "nomodeset" , after rebooting I believe it will just be a blank screen unless I alter something - correct?

thanks

johnsonm8741,
You can install the nvidia driver by following leigh123linux instructions. You will probably have to print them out and type them in manually on the command line after Ctrl-Alt-F2...as long as your internet connection works. saved my butt countless times.

*Edit - did you try installing with the Basic Video driver option?

Thanks, but I think this looks over my head.... I have do idea how to do this. Fedora 13 is not installed - it's just the live cd - I just don't understand how to do it looking at those instructions...

Well, I'll try - nothing to lose I guess....
Let you know what happens....

thanks

On both the KDE and Gnome LiveCDs I have the same problem. After Grub loads and the machine starts to boot the screen loses its signal and goes blank. I can see the CDs booting and get the start-up sound but that's all she does! nVidia GForce 9500.

Was thinking of trying Fedora again but just don't have the time to f*rt around getting things working when Mint "just works"

Wow, this is a big problem for us - management is really upset... after all this time and support to fedora - this happens without any simple workaround.... now I have to migrate 12 machines to a different OS... what's fedora thinking...

two steps backwards....

You make it sound like a major issue, it is so simple to workaround I didn't think I needed to post.

Get the DVD and do a text install, after installation install the nvidia driver.

What is so hard?

I believe you can use boot options for the livecd to specify video driver

'basic graphics installation' should also work, it will use the vesa driver.

Can you please file a bug for the problem with the nouveau driver? Thanks.

(If you could test the alpha, beta or RC releases with a live image, for future Fedoras, that would help us to avoid problems like this; it's hard for us to fix a broken card for the final release if we don't know it's broken until the release is out :<)

possibly. it may not be the same bug, though. even though 6100 and 6150 are similar, they're still not the same. Ben would be the one who'd know for sure, given the logs.
