Hi there,

I am having some trouble with my wireless connection. I read somewhere that installing Wicd network manager would do the trick. After a long struggle I managed to install it. However,... the trouble remained.

In a previous topic, someone (ozjd) said I had to look up the wireless chipset. As a noob I have no idea what this is, or what I should do with it, but I guess it has something to do with this:

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Attansic Technology Corp. Device 1062 (rev c0)

At my work I am able to connect to the wireless network which is WPA2 encrypted. At home I am using the same encryption, but here I can't get connected. I can however connect to a non-encrypted wireless.

When I try to connect to my own wireless I get the following error message:

"Could not obtain IP-adress"

Thanks for any help,

Julius

There's a suggestion here, http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=240968&highlight=AR242x. Use the forum search feature and search on the term AR242x. Several hits, maybe some useful info to help you out.

LOL... I solved the problem and I feel so stupid now. Apparently there are two types of WPA2 settings. I used the first one which apparently did not work (this was the default, and as a noob I'm not comfortable with changing defaults). In an attempt of desperation I did change about every possible option available and apparently this did the job.

Thanks anyway.
