I've been running Omega 12 and I tried out the Gnome 3.0 preview shell. It's new and slick but its missing many of the controls you have in Gnome 2.28. I assume that since its a preview its lacking a complete gui at this point.
Any other thoughts about this Gnome 3 preview?

The package in GNOME shell doesn't reflect the latest development snapshot and it has still six months of development left before we reach GNOME 3.0. It should get a lot more functionality by then
