About two years ago I delved back into Linux for the first time since trying Lindows nearly a decade ago. After trying several distros I landed on Ubuntu but I've kept on multi-booting/distro-hopping since then.

I do think I tried Fedora once before and possibly found it too complicated for me, but I just installed Fedora 12 in a multi-boot mess:

lance@lance-desktop:~$ sudo update-grub
[sudo] password for lance:

In fact my main reason for installing Fedora was to test Ubuntu's grub2 since so many people report problems doing so but I had no REAL problems!

Anyway, the purpose of this post is just to say I had only two small "niggles" installing. The first was when the (Live CD) installation was complete I could not eject the disc on reboot. I finally had to insert another Live CD (ubuntu 9.04) into my CD ROM while Fedora was running in the DVD/CD RAM drive so I could successfully eject the Fedora Live CD.

The second was installing updates but a quick search found this:

http://n3.nabble.com/Software-Update-Fails-td122680.html#a122680

And then updates completed as they should. I then followed this guide:

http://www.howtoforge.com/the-perfect-desktop-fedora-12-i686-gnome

except I only installed about 10% of those packages. I already have a good idea what I want.

Anyway I'm very impressed! Your devs did really, really good, and the documentation is second to none. This is a really great distro!

Hello kansasnoob:

And welcome to the Forum, and Fedora.

We like to hear the Good Stuff™©® too, so thank you for your post.

However, the Fedora Project developers do not (generally, but with a few notable exceptions) frequent this Forum, which is privately owned and operated, and not a part of either Red Hat nor Fedora Project - we are the "semi-official" forum for Fedora, more-or-less. So, please consider taking advantage of our "Fedora Project Jump" feature (top right of each page) to go tell 'em the good stuff too ("Communicate").

Enjoy Fedora and these Forums!

Don't worry, I'll have lots and lots of questions. I've become so accustomed to APT that YUM and RPM are like learning a foreign language to me.
