View Full Version : CD burning broken: "Error mounting"

I am using Fedora 12 and GNOME. My CD burning isn't working, as every time I insert a blank CD, an error pops up:

Error mounting: mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

I don't know if this is a GNOME problem. Evidently, it tries to mount it the way it would a data CD, rather
than launch the Nautilus CD burner. Is there a config file that governs this? I understand that posting the fstab wouldn't be helpful, since no mounting is involved. Finally, I'm able to play CDs fine, so it looks like a permission problem to me. Any leads?

Responding to my own post. I have filed a bug report: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=571115
In the meantime, CD burning remains impossible, so if someone can think of a solution, please do reply.

k3b has been the best burner for me, although installing it with gnome will pull in a few KDE libraries. You might also try xcdroast, which has a somewhat confusing interface, but works.

Try the following:

yum install brasero gnomebaker

You will always get an "Error mounting" with a blank CD/DVD... there is no filesystem
to mount.

Putting a blank in should get you a window asking what to do with it, not a error message.
