I'm staring at a dumb one; how much faith do you guys place in clamav?

I have two memory sticks (vfat) of which buddy's pc (WinXP Pro, corporate environment) claim are infected with trojan/spyware, goes so far as naming them (chess.exe and .autorun), and claims to quarentine them. Not surprising because my memory sticks are like prostitutes so there's a good chance. But it swears so over and over each time I plug either in. A live OS won't pick off the files (only ten files on the sticks anyway), and clamav just smiles and waves. Am I nutz in thinking he's a carrier?

I assume you've used a Linux box to save copies of the content, then deleted all files on both drives, then tried them again blank?
