I am attempting to do an installation from a Fedora 12, 5 CD set.

I only see the text mode installation! I think because Intel 810 graphics hardware is not being detected?

At the end of the installation the boot is in runmode 3 and only a root account has been created. Not much else has been configured! No network no Xorg etc. I do have vi but that's about it as far as configuration tools go.

I have previously installed Fedora 6 without any difficulty. I tried installing 6 first but 12 didn't give me any 'upgrade' options, just overwrote with a bare installation.

What should I do next?

You cannot upgrade from F6 to F12. I have no experience with the CD set, but I guess there is a reason why you don't use the DVD.

Configure networking (use system-config-network-tui), install the GUI packages, create an user account and reboot.
