I am not sure if "spin" is the right term actually but what I want to do is make an iso of my current setup that is working properly so that in case of a hdd failure I can easily reinstall; is this possible? If so, how do I do it?

Oops, sorry I didn't realize that there was a forum specifically for this issue.
Thanks for moving it to the correct place.

I've been reading through the posts on this forum and it sounds like this is way above my head... I will set this aside for a while.

If you don't mind spending about $30., Boot It Ng (Boot It Next Generation) can be used to make an image of your linux partition. You burn on a DVD; it takes maybe 30 minutes to complete with bit by bit verification. So, what I did was install Fedora, get the GUI configured the way I like, get all current updates, download all the media software etc. Then make the image. Then I kept a log of anything added to the system so that I could add it back if I ever used the image. Then at some point, when I thought I'd better make another image, I wiped the partition, reinstalled the image, then added the stuff in my log. Then......took another image on DVD. You get the drift.

My gnome panel (Top Right) still REALLY has the wrong location; I have I thing set the local to where I live in the UK, however, I still seem to be getting the weather in NY!

Go here and just excuse the bit of putting it onto a thumb drive.
