id like to get an honest opinion here.

i have gathered up all the software, emulators, and hardware i need to make my switch to a dual boot system on my laptop. (been running test on my dummy desktop)

i have mandrake 9.1 and fedora. For a linux newb(tho i have skillz with computers) who just wants to use code programs, which would be better?

has anyone used both?

im looking to get slickedit or other code software and use it daily.

let me know

I've used both. And I would say Fedora, its a more professional distribution and its at the cutting edge of technology in terms of RPM based distros.

Awsome man.

I found Fedora to boot quciker and set-up smoother.

Also, with the KDE theme ill still be able to modify my desktop to feel satisfied.

Any other opinions?

(Mind you, you are most likely to get a biased answer in here after all this is a Fedora Distribution forum called FedoraForum.org - :p)

I personally used mandrake back 4 years ago and I hated it. I then have switched back and forth between redhat and debian since then. Currently though I use Fedora Core 2 test 1. Nothing against mandrake because I have not seen or used their product in years but i have been very happy with Fedora and plan on using it on my desktop and probably will continue to keep debian on my server because it really doesn't need a full install for my server needs.

I was just about to say that had you not already.;) LackeyLad, I have always been a Red Hat man a liked it. Now with the new Fedora Project, it has gotten even better IMHO in terms of quality and technology. So what do I recommend? I'll leave that for you to figure out. ;)

I started out on Mandrake originally. But it just irritated me too much.

i agree guys. thank you for the feedback.

mandrake had more problems configuring than fedora, and fedora seems to be the smoother, not to mention there was some problem with mandrake installation and the wiping of cdroms

ill be putting fedora on the laptop as of the end of this weekend, so it looks like i am already in the right place

now all i need to do is learn enough about the system to be a contributor to the next noob that hops in

There's nothing wrong with asking questions. ;)

We all do it from time to time, well accept from mhelios from the looks of things. But that's different.
