Hi,
I seem to have Gnome and KDE open at the same time. I would like just KDE it done it the other day when I loaded KDE i had the kde panel at the bottom and the gnome panel at the top. Today I loaded KDE and the KDE panel came up at the bottom then the Gnome panel appeared over it. I couldn't get to the kde panel to do anything i found the only way was to right click on the gnome panel goto properties then set it to autohide. So now I can see the KDE panel but when i put the mouse pointer at the very bottom the Gnome panel appears.
Not only that but the icons in the system tray are all missing apart from the volume control. I can see the speaker but not Network Manager or Klipper icons but if i move the mouse pointer over them i can see the text appear above them telling me what they are. I'm sure i've seen the problem before sometime and I had to run some code that made them appear again. I'm using Fedora 12 Beta and with or without desktop-effects on they are not showing. I'm also using a Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card although i'm not sure if that's got anything to do with it.
Has anyone else seen this before?
Thanks in advance.

I have not seen that problem, however I have had the problem with yumex and the kernel install.
I added KDE to my install and am also seeing some other problems that may or may not be related. Keep an eye out on this forum for more. I have one thread called "Alpha worked, Beta now does not" with my efforts.
good luck.

This is what mine shows
# ps aux | grep gdm
root 8387 0.0 0.0 89080 856 pts/2 S+ 20:17 0:00 grep --colour=auto gdm
# ps aux | grep kdm
root 922 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< 18:30 0:00 [kdmflush]
root 1937 0.0 0.0 32812 1204 ? Ss 18:30 0:00 /usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon
root 8389 0.0 0.0 89084 936 pts/2 S+ 20:17 0:00 grep --colour=auto kdm
It is for this reason I always install from a live kde. if you start from gnome it becomes extremely entrenched.
the kind of suggestions i have are the kind that are likely to kill the install - starting by perhaps killing the gdm processes to something as drastic as removing gdm.

gary - i would run kill -9 1675 to kill gnome-panel and kill -9 1895 to kill compiz

Thats got rid of the gnome panel but I need to keep the compiz because i'm using the actual desktop-effects app because the method used through the control panel settings doesn't work as good as this does. I'm using a Radeon 9800 Pro thats an old card and I had a nightmare trying to get it to run at a decent speed.Even with compiz killed the icons still don't show up. I'm hoping when i log out and log back in the gnome panel will not come back i'll post again if it comes back.
