Hello ,
I have F12 installed on HD ,and because of long standing issues ,I tried
the life cd from 08-10-09 .
Mouse pointer invisible ,as on my HD version .
Also ,when I try to install ,I get a abrt crash announce for anaconda .
So I can't install ,that's already the 4° iso download .
The F12 on HD boot's until gdm should appear ,black screen and after 5 x tab and
enter ,restart .
Then in grub screen ,add 3 on the kernel args. line ,login as user ,startx
then I get gnome pannel ,but a ghostly mouse pointer .
No normal graphical use posible in F12 .
However my first install (about 5 weeks ago) did worked more ore less ,
and most troubles I've solved . But then came dracut and other "updates" ,
no gdm at first ,then after more "updates" ,no longer possible also
with startx to login ,and now I can login again with startx ,but no mouse !
For the mouse pointer issue I guess its again a problem with ATI (9250) drivers
& config. files .
But for gdm not comming up ,I'm lost ,its 4 weeks that I'm intensivebly reading ,
trying all tricks to my knowledge ,to no avail ,I'm stuck .
No one else seems to have those troubles ,ore are not reporting ,so I
get no clues or hint's and I'm at the end of inspiration :)
I feel lucky to still have F10 & F11 & F11-testing on my HD's :D
Greetings

I feel for you man. I've had to do serious gymnastics to get fedora 11.91 to nearly run smoothly.
I think using :
nomodeset
on the grub kernel command line may be useful to try to workaround the xorg bug you've found.
Did you report any of these problems on bugzilla (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/)?

Thank you Zanpactou for the reply,
Well ,no ,I didn't file a report .
The reason being : because of no others seem to have similar troubles ,no complaint's
in fedora forum etc ,and I had no replys on my postings in fedora-testing .
As I had several issues and several solved by myself one after the other (well ,workaround's :D ).
I simply didn't know against witch part to report against ,there are several possibilities .
And I wanted some advice on that .
In these ~4 weeks I've gathered a lot of info from my trials ,so e.g dracut ,gdm ,gruby ,selinux ,xorg
and so on ... have got all their possible influence .
Your hint "nomodeset" was already tried ,but I try again ,it was some week's ago and in the mean time ...
Let you now if it helps now :)
Thanks again and greetings,
Martin

Well I don't think there is much of a community on this forum testing and such, I could be wrong.
We'll see when the beta comes out because dracut isn't on the alpha and gets pulled and installed if you do an update. It is going to cause some pretty big issues, which I hope get resolved quickly (It is such an ambitious piece of software though.)
I expect the reports to go flying in when the beta is out because many will have things that just don't work due to drakut not catering for it. Modules not being loaded, etc are all a pain.
Yeah and then there is the new x server; great for some and a regression for others.
My biggest problem is that I can't use an updated kernel because of the update the intel guys pushed into mainline for the i915 driver. I tested before they pushed it in; told them it was crap and that it consistently crashed xorg but they pushed it anyway.
If I update the alpha I get no sound. Still trying to work that out and I highly suspect dracut because it's not the alsa or pulseaudio updates.
It's all fun but the alpha release without updating is the only Linux install with kms that pretty much does work 100% on this machine. The i686 optimisations for x86 seem to make a big difference. So there are some positives.
If you find a problem and then look on the bugzilla for it, if you find someone else with the same, put a "I can confirm this bug too." Or if it's not on there, make a new report for the bug you have found.
If you get anything slightly wrong in the report, the bug guys will tell you or change it for you, I'm sure.
It's really important to report anything you find going wrong because it's safe to assume that developers don't know anything is wrong unless you tell them.
I have a whole list to search for/post here and I'm just about to action them...

Back again had to sleep a bit ,
yea ,I also like the spirit (dracut) ,wanted to help on the dracut test-day's ,but just then F12 wasn't
cooperative ,and I didn't take the risk of installing it on my other's (F11 and testing).
Had I done so ,maybe I could make a phone call to give the results :D
I don't have any Intel graphics card or chip sets ,and therefore no experience with them.
Because I am involved in a project ,helping to recuperate 2° & 3° hand PC's ,I use ati 9250.
It was then (4-5j ago) a very popular card here in Belgium (and surroundings :) )
also cheep (for free now) ,low on power consumption (very important) and needs no extra fan.
Reassembling better hardware combinations ,and testing soft for those PC's is my contribution
to the project. They end up where needed (schools ,mostly in poor country's).
Most PC's we get for free from offices and so on ,and they contain mostly low end graphics cards.
Witch is perfect for our purpose.
For your problem with alsa-pulsaudio , I have got problems with them on F11 ,but it was policy kit
witch was obstructing. By changing the permits ,and toggling with the "nice" value it revived
somehow ,although ,I don't know the exact cause or reason.
Also ,if you suspect dracut ,I have some ideas ,but need to work them out first.
Would give you a way of controling what it is doing or not.
Was going to try this anyway ,for my one troubles ,let you know if it works.
"nomodeset" didn't work ,I'm going to try and insert an xorg.conf file ,
(have to write one ,can't find any template)
For gdm not coming up ,I suspect X choosing the 2° monitor ,is not there :)
and for the mouse ,I can ad an option "HWCursor" "off" in the device section.
I remember ,this was an workaround in F8 or 9 ,thought this was resolved a while ago.
And yes ,I do browse Bugzilla ,and try to be helpful ,as I do on the forums.
Thank you for the post and info ,will write again

You do good work sir. :)
Here's /etc/X11/xorg.conf examples :
http://dev.gentoo.org/~fmccor/docs/xorg/xorg.conf/xorg.conf.htmlhttp://dev.gentoo.org/~fmccor/docs/xorg/xorg.conf/xorg.conf.html
I breifly tested the F12 Alpha on a machine I have here that has an Ati Radeon 7000, didn't seem to wok at all.
Did you try removing rhgb quiet as well as adding nomodeset. I can't remember because I've been down in init 3 so many times now, whether that worked here when I installed moblin (Which didn't work properly) Which broke x starting properly.
Good luck! I'm sure we'll both get there eventually. ;)

Thanks Zanpactou for the examples and the encouragement :)
I've prepared things to control dracut its way of handling's ,also a xconf file ,but for now
I can't reboot this PC ,its downloading a docu and some other much wanted stuff .
I'll call it a day ,its 02:50 AM ,go under ,and tomorrow I'll do the testing.
Hope it works ,and will post the results ,
greetings and thanks again
