samba-common-3.4.2-0.43.fc11.i586 - a recent security fix
This is used in f12 because the old version in f12 does not work.
No f12 equivalent.
Even f13 has 3.4.2-0.46.fc13.1
The maintainer should get their act together or give it up to someone that can handle the pace of samba changes. samba ia a very main line core program and needs to be tested early, not after the release.

I got Samba working by manually editing smb.conf. Every attempt to run system-config-samba has produced a crash. I have uninstalled and re-installed, and the problem persists. I hoped to see Samba included in the morning's updates, but it was not. Does anyone believe this is not a bug ?

How can the maintainer release the new version of samba during the development freeze
If you aren't happy with this, try asking the maintainer if he could tag it as 'updates' at bodhi.
P.S If you think you can do it better join fedoraproject .

What kind of response does one expect from the devs by posting this here, anywho?

Sounds more like a system-config-samba bug than a samba bug.

Maybe one doesn't expect a response from the devs for things posted here. Maybe one wants to compare notes with others before going after the devs. Earlier one posted here what he thought might be a bug, and Slowjet solved it as not a bug, and not something to go after the devs about.
And here one has learned that it is an issue already known to the devs, who are already working on it.
I find this to be a great place to compare notes.

Shrug. OK. I would have chose the Rants board. :p :)
EDIT:
Regarding the system-config-samba issue: have you perhaps tried moving smb.conf to another location (smb.conf.bak or whatever) and then tried using system-config-samba? Maybe there's some directive in there the new version doesn't like. Even if you uninstall-reinstall samba and s-g-samba, I don't believe the configs will be removed.

is the latest F12 build of samba. It should get tagged into final, I think, but you can grab it there for now.

Thank you tjvanwyk. I renamed smb.conf, allowing it to be recreated.
It still crashes.
Thank you Adam W. I went to the link you provided, and there was Samba, dated Oct. 9th, including all its modules. But system-config-samba was not there. System-config-samba is what I am having trouble with.
So Do I understand from this that your system-config-samba is working just fine, and that I am the only one having crashes with it ? If that is the case, then waiting for the devs to produce a good version will be futile.

system-config-samba is not part of samba itself. I can't say I use the tool myself, but I just ran it for the first time and it certainly appears to start up okay. If you're having problems, please follow the usual procedure for filing a bug with details about what exactly goes wrong. Thanks!

OK I filed a bug report on it.
