If you are serious about learning more on Linux Security and how to keep your system up to date swing by SecurityFocus (http://www.securityfocus.com) and check out their Unix section. They have a lot of excellent articles that can help both newbies and experts alike.
If you can stand a few extra emails a day I recommend jumping on their "Focus on Linux" mailing list and any others you think might interest you. You'll be amazed at the amount of helpful threads that fly through those lists on a daily basis. :)
