Hi,

I am hoping some one can assist with a problem I am having. I am new to fedora and I am trying to install it on my Acer 8930G laptop. The laptop currently has Vista OS and the 500Gb HDD is split o into two 250Gb partitions. The main C:\ is the OS and the D:\ is free.

When I load the Live CD I am getting the following message:

end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1409152
Buffer I/O error on device sr) logical block

I have treid several other live CD's, ISO and even tried to directly install onto the HDD, however it then states that It can not locate the HDD.

I have managed to load it into a VM Machine with no problems. therefore I think it maybe a problem with the hardware during boot up process.

If anyone can provide an help it would be most appreciated.

Thanks

When do you get these messages, while you are using the liveCD or during installation? If you get them during use of the liveCD's, I would suspect a bad download or burn, since the liveCD wouldn't touch your hdd. I would then first verify the checksum of the downloaded iso. If thats ok, there is an option to verify the liveCD within the boot menu of the liveCD.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry I should have given more information. The event happens when I insterl the CD/DVD and then either try and install or run as a live CD. After verifying I then click install the CD/DVD spins and several seconds later I then get the message. I have treid several other CD's/DVD's and ISO, even an original from the fedora bible presents the same message.

However If I load the disc in to VM Ware i get no problems and the system load and installs sucessfully crating a vm machine. I believe the problem is either with my Acer laptop or how the Vista partitions are configured.

Thanks once again

"end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1409152

to get rid of that error try burning the cd using the -sao (surface at once or disk at once) option.

For the hang that occurs later, I think it's probably your graphics hardware that's the problem. Press Tab key early the the live cd boot sequence, try adding keywords "nomodeset nopat" and remove the "rhgb" from the kernel command line and see if it boots further.
