Hey everyone, I have searched around and have found issues similar to mine, but are a little ahead of me and I need some help.

I installed Fedora 9 through the LiveUSB crator tool and installed it fine. I restarted the laptop and during the initialize screen it pauses for about 5 minutes after looking for sound card and the cursor types "^@" after about 3 minutes it boots and goes to the log in screen.

Once on the desktop I get a pop up saying there was an error in the kernel. I click okay and there I am on the desktop and everything seems normal.

I have no sound, as there is no found sound card. I am not all that worried about that now (unless you know an easy fix). My main problem is that it doesn't find my ethernet or wifi cards. AgainI am not worried about the land line as I don't have any ethernet cables, LOL.

But I can't get my wifi working. I found a couple threads here and seems the issue is the card.. Atheros or whatever. So install the madwifi right? But how? And in the set up for the networking stuff I was told to use ath0 instead of eth0, but I don't have the ath0 option, only eth options.

So with no internet I can't install rpms or run yum or anything. So, how do I get what I need on the USB and run it from within linux? And what do I need?

Any help?

I am on an HP G60-230US (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01630404&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN), if that helps anyone.

I used this tutorial (http://lifehacker.com/391067/fedora-9-puts-your-desktop-on-a-usb-drive) for the USB install.

Hi

to be frank you are better off using f11 instead of f9 as it will probably cure most/all of the problems you mentioned.

Okay, when I used the liveUSB creator, F9 was the highest option.

Is there a way to make it download/install F11, or is there a tutorial somewhere to do it manually? I have looked but no dice so far.

Nevermind, I found it. Just downloaded the creator tool from fedora 2 days ago, must have been an old page. I have the F11 option now. Will try that and see what happens.

Had a little problem when it finished (EBIOS error). The suggested fix was to upgrad the syslinux version to a higher version, but I was already using the highest released version. Kept checking and realized I formatted the USB Stick in FAT format. Reformatted in FAT32 format and viola! Here I am on Fedora 11 and I have internet and sound.

The speed is pretty slow, but I am reviewing the fixes for that. Hopefully one of them will work and everything will be perfect.

Now I have a question..... since I am not going to install this particular version and I allocated a lot of space on my USB drive for persistent overlay... how does that work?

Are all things I do automatically saved or do I need to do something special?

Thanks for all the help so far!
