Hello all.

I have just installed FC2 on three different computers with different hardware configs. I am happy to say that it runs like a champ on all of them however I am having some issues with two of the video cards. *shock*

Machine #1 is Pentium 4 with hyperthreading and has a ATI Radeon 9800 XT graphics card. Upon startup of the smp kernel I get the message 'ACPI: S3 & PAE do not like each other for now, S3 disabled.' and then the machine proceeds to lock up with a blank screen. Everything does work fine with a single processor kernel though, so I am not horribly concerned. I have had the same problem with FC1 and smp-capable live CDs (namely Knoppix-STD). I understand what the S3 disabled message means, just wondering if there is any easy way to get them to like each other. :)

Machine #2 is a true dual processor running 2 Pentium 3 850's and has a Apollo S3 Savage4 AGP. Upon startup with the smp kernel I get the same PAE/S3 message but I do manage to successfully get into X. The problem occurs when I try to exit X for any reason (logging out, shutting down or switching to a console). I have same issue with the single processor kernel and have also tried RedHat 9 and FC1 on this machine -- both have the same problem. Amazingly, the live CDs have no problems jumping in and out of X.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Managed to fix my own problem with Machine #2 thanks to much more informative error logging done by XOrg in FC2. :)

Basically, the problem was that I had my default colordepth set too high (millions of colors vs thousands of colors) and my BIOS was choking because it could not find a suitable mode to fall back to when exiting X at that high of a colordepth.

I have an ASUS P2B-DS Dual Slot-1 Rev. 1.06 D03 Motherboard with SCSI support on that box if anyone else happens to run into a similar issue. ;)
