smlink.com provides a beta of a driver slmodem-2.9.7.tar.gz that compiles with 2.6 kernel of Fedora Core 2. But I can't figure out how to make /dev/modem after my successful compilation.

In 2.4 "make install-amr" would do the job, but it seems like 2.6 uses another way of inserting modules...

If anyone solved the same case as I have, I would be glad to have a clue...

I have studied the readme. The drivers compiles and I can run

/sbin/modprobe slamr
/usr/sbin/slmodemd --country=RUSSIA /dev/slamr0

it says that modem is running at /dev/ttySL0, but neither kppp nor wvdialconf can find the modem...

and unlike driver from smlink for FC1 and kernel 2.4, there is no /dev/modem to use...
