Hello folks,
i open another thread for my problem because is a little bit different by the one exposed in this other thread (http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22203&page=2) where i have yet replyed, so this is not double posting mh  !
Well i have a very frustrating one problem, but i think with a little of patient and determination it will be ok.
You have to know that I am a totally noob about shell ,unix and other stuff ( i have one month with fedora core 2 experience) .
So, i bought a Audigy Ls soundcard some days ago, and now i am working very hard to have her working under fedora core 2!
So, i am under fedora core 2, kernel update to 2.6.8-1.521 kernel version, first i have installed alsa-driver alsa-libs alsa-utils 1.0.6a only follow this steps
http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=Quick+Install
After reeboting i have my sound card installed but gnome volume icon tray don't work and in my audio control preferences i have two tabs "SigmaTel STAC9721/23[OSSMIXER]" and "AUDIGYLS[ALSAMIXER]".
First problem:
Here http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22203&page=1&pp=15
is specified that i must have a tab called "Digital1" or something similar so i made something wrong compiling alsa driver.
I try also compiling alsa-cvs follow this (http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=AlsaCVS) but nothing seems to change!I have compiled alsa1.0.6a on the alsa 1.0.3 that is natively whit fc2, and then i have compiled alsacvs on alsa1.0.6a!There are problems doing this?!I have to disinstall something in order to update?!
Maybe the problem is that I have NOT compiled the kernel-alsa-module folder that comes with the cvs , shall i have to do this?(Sorry guys i am a nOOb).
Second problem:
I hear very frequently a distortion that is really weird, like the music is skipping, and the playrate is a bit to fast. ( i remember the same thing on windows, solved by disabling the digital audio output).
I think is the same on linux but i don't have any voices on my wrong mixer that permitt to me do something.
Third problem:
I have a Philips 5.1 surround speakers rightly connected to my Audigy Ls but i don't have they working , doing the surround work, oly two front speakers work!

What i have to do in order to have my soundcard working regularly under Fedora Core 2 ??
Could someonehelp me with this 3 frustrating problems!?
thank you very much in advance

cheers :)

Hey kaiser,

I know a guy who has a Audigy soundcard who got it working with alsa driver 1.0.3.
Indeed the native driver of FC2.

What sounds do come out? Soundcard detection test? CD sound?

I am a noob folks, any ideas or comments will be usefull for me!
Maybe i have to post here some dump or content of some system files, in order to make a better explanation of my situation and permit to someone to help me better!???!

Howdy Kaiser,
I just recently got my Audigy card working (I just had problems with the volume controls-which can be maddening since there are like a thousand). Have you done a yum update on your alsa packages? I find yum to be great since it automatically checks for dependencies. If you are getting no sound at all then you may just need to yum update everything including your sound card driver, although, FC2 probably has done this. What does your /etc/modprobe.conf file look like?
Here's mine:
alias eth0 3c59x
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
install snd-emu10k1 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-emu10k1 && /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove snd-emu10k1 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-emu10k1
alias usb-controller uhci-hcd
alias char-major-195* nvidia

The problem with the Audigy LS is, that the ALSA support is not yet 100%.
The only thing you can do right now is to switch to esd. That worked for me!
Go to Preferences->Sound and enable sound server start up.
Then go to Preferences->More Preferences->Multimedia Systems Selector and use esd for sound. Gnome will then use esd for it's sound output, put for other programs to use esd you've got to change their sound-settings.

This is not a fix, it's a work around. And at this time unfortunately, the only one that works.

I forgot something, if you want to use gnome-volume-control right-click on the speaker icon->Preferences and choose Analog Front

Yes guy, i follow your instructions and it is ok now.NO more frustrating noise.
The only problem i have now, is this:
I have a 5.1 philips sound system with 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer!
The problem is that only 2 front speakers working and no sound from the principal front channel and no sound from subwoofer and satellites speakers!(Seems it is configured for a simple 2 channels system).
I tried to work around with my channels volume but seem that only Analog Front bar work!
I would like my speakers full working, so what i have to do in order to solve the problem?!
thank you in advance
cheers
