I am wondering if I am having a hardware or hd format problem. Whether I install FC2 or FC 3 it takes 3-4 times to get a good install. The install seems to stall in various places or comes up with fatal errors (could be media is what it indicates). I return to floppy of DOS and run fdisk on both drives. I am using a Windows 98 boot disk for fdisk (could that be the problem? The box is a ASUS with 384mb ram, The processor is 1 gig. The drives are both Maxtor, one is 30g and one is 40g. Also what is the rescue cd iso for? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions. I know I am a newbie, but I will learn this system.

When you first boot the cd up, some were along the lines it will ask if you want to test the CD's, select yest and test them to make sure your media is good.

Did you check the MD5SUM's when you downloaded the ISO's?

If you are new to Fedora or Linux in general, I wouldn't recommend you install FC3test2 right now. It's not noobie friendly :)

The rescue cd is just to boot up and fix stuff, you don't need right now since you don't have anything installed.

Yes I did verify the CD's and test them, all were okay. Any other ideas?

Do you have an extra cdrom drive laying around? I once had the same sort of problems and it came down to haveing a bad cdrom drive. Can you instll any other linux distros just to test the cdrom.

You also might trying running the powermax test on your hd since they are maxtor and check them

The powermax install deal is an .exe so it has to be run on winblows to make the powermax floppies, so hope you have a win box around or know were to find one ;-)
