Doing an install of FC11 - got about four-fifths of the way through (using the status bar as a gauge) and Got this error: "The file rpm-python-4.7.1-1.fc11.i586.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source. If you exit, your system will be left in an inconsistent state that will likely require reinstallation."

Options: Reboot or Retry.

If I retry, it just comes back.

History: I'm using the 6 CD version having used the iso files to create them from the download. This install has NOT asked for any other CD except the first one. It then asked for a network connection and seemed to be downloading all the updates.

I don't know how important this file is, but is there a way to "skip it" and continue finishing the installation and then going back to clean it up? I don't really want to reboot and loose the 4 plus hours the install has taken so far. (Maybe I need a different first disk so the other CDs get called into play instead of a download.)

Physical properties: Putting this on a RAID 5 server (P3 dual processor, 1 Gig RAM) with the boot partition on one of the pair of IDE drives that are software mirrored as well for data storage. Will be using for PING and Snort is my plan for this machine.

May have it solved - will verify tomorrow. As I continued to dig I found this command: "method=cdrom" which may force the install to use the cds instead of going on-line. Hopefully that will take care of the inconsistencies that turned up.

I'll keep you all posted.

Thanx to Dog-One's post for undocumented commands!

Here's the update I promised.

Well, once I found out how to get to the "boot:" prompt (simply hit the ESC key) I had to then type: linux method=cdrom and the installation started.

Notice I didn't say finished. Now I have introduced another problem. The install gets just past the drive configuration spot and then grinds to a halt. It tries to connect to the internet and cannot. I have the network cable unplugged and it still tries to go to the internet instead of going on to the next disc. I even downloaded another first CD from a different mirror to see if that made a difference - nope. Is this a bug? Or am I missing something? The last time I used the CD 6 pack was when I installed Fedora 9 about two years ago. That worked like a charm and that install is still going strong.

As I've been hunting down this problem I found out that Fedora changed the installer since version 9. Could this have anything to do with my problems wanting to use the 6 disc set and not the internet for doing the install?

Any ideas on how to get the CDs to work and not "look to the internet" during the install?

Fixed.

1. Download DVD iso file.
2. Burn DVD install disk.
3. Install DVD/CD drive in server.
4. Install using DVD and notice that on the Package Group Selection screen that only the top selection in the bottom box entitled "Installation Repo" is selected. I'm almost positive that using the CD version that the bottom two were filled in by default as well. I'm not going to uninstall to verify this but someone might want to check that out and fix that if it is so.

Thanx for riding along!

PS. Didn't need the method=cdrom command for the DVD install.
