Why do I get this error under install of Fedora Core 2? I've tried to get help on IRC, but no one understood the problem. I also met another guy with the same problem as me:
crcr error
VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block (72,3)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (72,3)

me!
yeah i had the same problem, 1st it was my HD, got a "new" one(old WD 3gig) and that stopped the VFS error, but i still got the crc error when setup tried to unpack the kernel... So i switched out my CD-rom drive, and it worked like a charm...i hope this helps

Have got the same problem, is definitely neither the CD (drive) nor the memory ... (but might me th HD, brand new 160 GB IBM, but why on earth?)
And I have the problem with all 2.6.x kernel-based distros (FC 2, SuSE 9.1, ...)
:(

Yes. Me too. All kernel 2.6.x-distro's.
I have 1x120GB WDC and 2x160GB WDC.

Sounds like the 2.6 kernel partition table weirdness again.
See this (http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2471).

As I have posted earlier I get the crc error with FC 2 and SuSE 9.1 But debian (sarge testing) with a 2.6.3 kernel works without any problems ...
So it is not necessarily the fault of the 2.6.x kernel ...
