New grub with ext4

tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/sda1

gedit /etc/fstab

for /boot change ext3 to ext4 defaults 0 0
save
reboot

There is a new kernel compiling now.
I'll test that in a couple of hours.

A grub from the rawhide repo, or a grub that you got elsewhere?

Keep us posted.

A grub from koji
However, booting after updating to the 35 kernel
gave a grub prompt.

So I'm stuck for now coz I don't speak BURGish.

One reason for this symptom (from ubuntu's lanchpad) is
the stage-1.5 and stage-2 files are to old?

They need to read ext4 also.

Well, I'm hitting 0 for 3 today.
Used the boot.iso of the 29 and 30th to cp, format, and cp back the root files.
Everything looked great, it bootup and started the going until it got to the root and home.
Somehow it didn't like a uuid, it fsck.ext3 on the 26 times mounted / and failed.
It fscked.ext3 on the home.
I went into a shell and fsck.ext4 on / and then home (big mistake, home was still mounted.), the / was ro and I couldn't fix nothing.

So I install with the 30th boot.iso and it was 80% done and the computer froze up.
I tried again later after rebooting the gateway machine. The install completed, it reboots but hangs just after the ok for udev. Tried several ways and no go.

Now I am about to mess up my F11 as I installed some F12 packages to get the latest LVM2 and e2fsprogs.
It's working now, but I haven't rebooted.

So my bar is under the corner stone of the barn on the back 40. :)
I got your raise, right here.

you got plenty time on your hands SJ, you can always reinstall F11 if you stuff it up :)

The reboot worked ok.
Very fast.

Now I can do 50 more things with LVM that can't be done on partitions. :)

Ah, that's excellent. However, reading about your tribulations, I think I'm going to wait. :)

Humm, the dates on the mirrors are changing before the files are updated.
That's why I'm a day off on what I thoht would work.

Also, anaconda is so out dated it is a wonder it works with f12.
I did a custom partitioning today, and yesterday's default "replace existing Linux" doesn't work as expected.
I had 3 /boot ext3 200MB partitions, 1 extended, 1 more boot ext3 200 MB and then the #6 was supposed to be the LVM PV.
There was no sign of LVM.
So the default install created a new boot each time, and the crashed system from fsck.ext3 on an ext4 LV totally destroyed it.

All because some geek in a back office doesn't think dates are data too. Like this has been a gap between the NX and PROS for like 5 decades.
I would write them a man page but the very mention of documentation and procedures causes trauma in their psyche.

Totally disgusting lackadaisical institutionalized apathy, and a waste of tax payer money.

cheers, :)

P.S. and now the newly installed rawhide is frozen solid.
