Hi all, I have installed FC11 on a laptop with italian keyboard layout. I have also an external keyboard with standard US layout. Is it possible to have the two keyboard (the main laptop keyboard and etxernal usb keyboard) working with different layout?

thanks

sure it is you just add a new layout and add the little icon that let you switch from a layout to an other ;)

the gnome applet doesn't work very well: often after I have selected the US layout, switching to a different window, or opening a new one, the default layout is restored. I really like something more related to HAL daemon, capable to setup the layout of the evdev device.

Look at System-Preferences-Hardware-keyboard in the menu. In the Layouts tab, "separate layout for each window" is set as the default, so just unset it.

I already have this value unset. The applet continues to switch back to the italian layout in a not reproducible way: sometime opening a new windows, sometimes don't, sometime starting to write an e-mail, sometime don't... boring...

for this reason I like to have a script that related with the evdev or hal daemons swicths the keyboard layout plugging, or unplugging, the external usb keyboard.

Looking better in the applet I found the keyboard layout set to "evdev managed". I switched to "Generic 105" and now the layout after the changes seems to be stable, at least in the last 20 minutes
