Hi All..!

Well, I have started this project since a week ago.. And I'm willing to put all my experience regarding Fedora over there.. I've saw other tutorial websites and I'm going to tell you: my website got a loooooooooong way to catch up with them.. but anyway, its my first attempt, so I hope I can make it bigger by time :)

here is the link, and I like to receive some feedbacks so I can make this website better by time :)

http://farisguides.webs.com

I'm planning to add some other sections like Customizations, Wine, etc .. but I'm still working with Useful Applications (http://farisguides.webs.com/usefulapplications.htm) section, hoping to make it a real useful link :)

Thanks..!!!

Regards,
Faris

I understand completely one's desire to build the perfect website. You don't have to work well with others, as you are the only maintainer/designer/developer and you have total freedom to be creative. It would be nice, however, to see more people working together to improve existing sites instead of everybody competing for the traffic.
There may be a website already out there that needs a volunteer or two to help out, and would appreciate your help.

With that said, I always support anyone who decided they want to support the community, especially that of a distro as awesome as Fedora...so good luck in your endeavors.

Your website looks nice :)

You might want to edit your html header and add some keywords.

Here's the forum header

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" dir="ltr" lang="en">
<head>
<!-- no cache headers -->
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" />
<meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1" />
<meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache" />
<!-- end no cache headers -->
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />
<meta name="generator" content="vBulletin 3.8.1" />

<meta name="keywords" content="fedoraforum,fedora support,fedora tech,fedora,fedora linux,fedora project,linux,,linux operating system,linux software,learn linux,linux hosting,linux server,linux driver,linux support,linux kernel,linux distribution,linux command,fedora core,linux tutorial,linux security,linux gallery,linux wallpaper,linux help,fedora help,fedora forums,fedora discussions,gnome,kde,xfree,xorg,samba,apt,firefox ,mozilla,mplayer,konqueror,bluecurve,xine,xmms,bit torrent,torrent,linux tutorial,linux reviews,fc8,fc9,fc10,fc11,f8,f9,f10,f11" />
<meta name="description" content="FedoraForum.org is the Support forum for Fedora Linux." />

<!-- CSS Stylesheet -->

You could edit yours to

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>My personal Fedora guide - Home</title>

Thanks for passing by :) .. You are totally right, working in group is way better than working individually, but I created this website so I can learn more about Linux and reach the level where I can create a customized Linux applications, package them, and distribute them over the internet. That's a long way to go. But to reach the end of the road, you have to start with an initial step, and that was the one for me :) .. I will conceder joining the 'pro' forces in the future, but after I get the enough knowledge that makes me capable of working with them in a pair :)

@leigh123linux:
Thanks for your suggestion...! I've added the keyword and site description as you advised..! And thanks for giving me your time exploring the website :)

True, but I'm still a student with no salary or credit card, and I'm planning to register my own domain and web space once I get one, mean while, I will stick with the free option ^^

Thanks for passing by :)

You should think about having a better name for the Webpage. "My fedora guide" sounds rather lame and not professional. "Faris Fedora Guide" or something like this would be a better name. And of some of the hintes are rather tips or hints, than workarounds, so you should maybe call them like this. But otherwise it is a nice site.

Thanks for your suggestions..! You have a point regarding the website name.. Didn't think of that "to be honest", I will change the website name ASAP :) .. And for "hints" or "tips", well, they are "fixes" after all.. I mean, most "or some" of us will encounter these problems after they have a fresh install of Fedora, so that I named them "workaround" .. But anyway, i wasn't satisfied myself, and your suggestion is really appreciated..!

Thanks for passing by.. The name will be changed in no time, Faris Fedora Guide sounds better, you got a point :) .. And for the website link, It's already included in some of the "resources" that linked to Fedora Forum webpage.. It's not THAT obvious, but I will try to create a separate webpage where I can put all the useful links that I took knowledge from.. Not a bad idea after all.. Thanks again :)

You could add a Fedora project jump.

<!-- Fedora Project Jump -->

<div id="drop_box_nav">
<form action="#" onsubmit="return go_nav();">
<select name="my_links" id="my_links">
<option value="#">Fedora Project Jump</option>
<option value="http://fedoraproject.org/">The Fedora Project</option>
<option value="http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-all">Get Fedora</option>
<option value="http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes/f11/">Release Notes</option>
<option value="http://docs.fedoraproject.org/install-guide/f11/">Installation Guide</option>
<option value="http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicate">Communicate with Fedora</option>
<option value="http://docs.fedoraproject.org/">The Documents</option>
<option value="https://bugzilla.redhat.com/">Bug Reports</option>
</select>
&nbsp;&nbsp;
<input type="submit" name="sub_nav" id="sub_nav" value="Go" />
</form>
</div>
<script type="text/javascript" src="subnav.js">
</script>

<!-- / Fedora Project Jump -->

You will need to add subnav.js to the web root

create a file called subnav.js and add.

function go_nav() {

if (document.getElementById && document.createTextNode) {

var user_link = document.getElementById("my_links").value;

window.location = user_link;

return false;

}

}

I'd love to, but..

Firefox can't find the server at guides.homelinux.com. :)

Maybe you could create something like the Guides and Solutions forum here at FF.org, you could put it in the Fedora Tips section so people can make their own tutorials. Impressed with your site, it's looks good:)

Thank you for stepping by.. Although its been around a year since I updated the website, but I'm so happy to receive such a worm feedback from everyone :) .. ff.org (http://www.ff.org) led me to a "political" website, I'm I missing something? :confused:

Thanks :)
