Why did you extract the file? You have to burn it as an ISO image. Most of the CD/DVD burning software have that option. If you use any of previous Fedoras, try Brasero. Should work just fine.

Should I write the ISO into the CD directly. !!!
I have tried the same but it is not working too... :(

You can use any of burning software that has option - burn image. Do not create data cd/dvd. Use "Burn Image" option. In Fedora environment start Brasero and click on the button - Burn Image. It will ask you to navigate to the file location.
If you are using Windows, you can use Nero, or Roxio. Depends on software release that option can be hidden in different menues. It might be:
Tool >> Burn Image (Nero)
Project >> Burn Image (Roxio)

You can search online help for you particular burning software. Just keep in mind: you are not creating Data file, but burning CD(ISO) Image.

There are plenty of free image burning utilities on the web.

I used K3b to burn an image. Most recent disc I made was Mint. I'll be burng F11 here shortly. Didn't work with the Live USB creator for some wierd reason. But I did that on XP. It didn't boot properly. So, I'm going to burn a disc using K3b.

I have Fedora8 and winxp duel boot in my PC.
I need Fedora 11 instead of Fedora 8.

I believe that you can not upgrade except from 10 to 11

Hey do one thing...
After inserting Live media, wait for fedora to load up..
1) install disc partitioning tool GParted.
login as root : su -
yum install gparted
wait for installation to complete then logout.
2) Open kde menu and search for gparted or on terminal just type 'gparted'.
This will open a gui based window and it will list all your hard drives.
click on the partition where you want to install the fedora.
resize the partition so that you have good space for linux as well as windows(if you want to install linux on the same hard drive where windows has)
create the following partitons from the free space you just created.
a). create a root partition: right click on the free space and say new. This gives some options change the file system type to ext4(which is latest) give a lable as root and assign some space for root partition
b) Create a swap partition : right click on the free space and say new . select linux-swap for the file system type and give the lable as swap. Remember the rule of thumb, your swap space should be in range from 1/2 of your Physical ram to ram size.
c) create the boot partition : The boot data should not be on the ext4 system.This gives a error if you are trying to use boot data to load on ext4 . So create a ext3 file system from the remaining free space and assign label as boot.
d) Create the home partition ( this is optional): Use the remaining space for home partition and label it as home and use ext4 file system.
None of these changes are not made to disc until you press the Apply button. This will give a warning message to keep a back up data , if it is ok then press ok. Wait till the operation is completed. It will show all the partitioned disc check if it is ok. close the gparted.
4) kill all the process and just single click the install to hard drive icon.
5) proceed for the steps and when it comes to disc partition menu choose 'create custom layout' from the drop down list.
click next then it lists all the partition that you have. click on the root labeled partition and click 'EDIT' button, map this partition to root from the drop down list and un check all the options since we already formatted the disc and click ok.
6) Similarly assign boot labeled partitioned to /boot and click ok.
7) assign swap partition to linux-swap partition and if you are created a separate home partition then assign it /home partition
click next to proceed and wait for the installation to complete .
8) restart the computer and remove the LIve media CD form the CD/DVD drive then it automatically boot from your hard drive. That's it Enjoy the new Fedora 11 linux..
If you still have any doubts.. just quote a reply...
Shiva.

From where you downloaded the live image( Through torrents or mirror sites)?
If you are downloaded from a mirror site, have you verified the ISO image with hash number provided by them(SHA1* file)? This is to verify your downloaded Image file is proper.
If your Image file is proper then it won't give any error
After Installation does it gave successfully installed fedora message?
Do you have a previous version of fedora running on the machine? if yes then first remove that version of linux from the hard drive then try to install the new version.
If all the above things are proper then can you post a screen shot of the error you are getting

Shiva.

that problem is solved.... I have seen even if Fedora shows red crossed icon, the network is there and both my Lan and net is working fine...

Currently I am into another problem....
My network configurations is back to default every time I boot the machine.
So in every time I need to go to root and activate the NICs.
I do not think it is logically correct... Could you please guide me....

Is that usb connection is from modem or do you have a usb net connect facility. If that is a usb net connect facility then check on the installation CD came with the usb modem whether drivers are applicable to linux also. If you do not have any drivers on the installation CD then browse the internet for corresponding drivers.
If it is a usb connection from modem then check if it is properly mounted or not . Some types USB related devices doesn't work properly on LInux. We need to some setup for them through kernel. check the following document for how to mount usb related devices on Linux http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/pdf/Flash-Memory-HOWTO.pdf
If you can go one level up in above link http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/pdf/ you can find a lot of documents related with Linux
such as setting up multimedia, configuring your network related settings and so..
One more thing the linux automatically detects your network settings as soon as you logged into linux. you should not have to root for setting you network related stuff.

Sorry for the late reply...
Can you check the device manager list when you plug-in usb cable in usb-port. It should give you a pop up menu saying that
particular device has been plugged in. Even then if it doesn't work then you try searching google.

While installing CD Fedora 11, some msg like "Kernel Failure" comes up.
After the installation when I reboot the machine a black screen with GRUB has come
and I got stuck...

Had that same problem when selected to partition/format entire disk.
Worked fine after selecting to use existing linux partition.

Here is the solution for Internet Sharing between two Fedora 11 and Fedora8

Enable IP forwarding

Run as root

sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_forward=1

To enable it in system startup, edit the file /etc/sysctl.conf and set

net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1
iptables

Run command as root

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE
service iptables save

Configuration

The configuration should be like this
Router

Connected to the internet provider
IP : 192.168.1.1
Internet Connected System
eth0 (LAN Card 1)

Connected to router

* IP : 192.168.1.10
* Netmask : 255.255.255.0
* Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (IP of the router)

eth1 (LAN Card 2)

Connected to the other system

* IP : 192.168.0.20 (Not the same network as the first card)
* Netmask : 255.255.255.0
* Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (IP of the router)

Second System
LAN Card connected to the first system

* IP : 192.168.0.30
* Netmask : 255.255.255.0
* Gateway : 192.168.0.20 (IP of the second Card in the first system)

I hope this will help many a newbie like me !!! :)
