On my compaq Presario A900 running Fedora 10 64 bit , every few minutes for no know reason my DVD drive clicks like it's about to open (at least my laptop is making the exact same sound as when it ejects a disc so I assume it's the disc drive mechanism making this sound). It even does this when I leave the disc drive open.
Anyone else have this issue? I don't want to wear out my disc drive without even using it. This is a weird one and I don't like it!
thanks...

I have had this problem with a desktop computer, but the problem in my case turned out to be a bad drive. The clicking didn't bother me too badly, but then I started getting errors burning discs...so I changed the drive and the clicking stopped. Do you have any read/write errors associated with that drive?

No errors yet, have barely used this drive. Computer is relatively new and I burn discs on my desktop (G5 iMac) generally. I just verified what I remembered- it doesn't do this when I'm working off the battery, only when I'm plugged in to AC power!
Also, if I log into Wind_ws to see what happens, it never does this.
