Upgrade vs full install

I've been running F10 since it came out - love it, by the way. I now see that F11 is coming out in less than a month, so I obviously start pondering whether to move up or not.

First, the question of whether to forgo F10 for F11. What would be the most compelling reasons to move up to F11 from a consistently updated and very well running version of F10?

Next, is there a clean way to upgrade from F10 to F11? This would obviously be preferred over a full install that necessitates the need to reinstall all of my current software (compiz, banshee, audacity, handbrake, codeblocks, etc.). Will currently installed software be functional through such an upgrade?

i'd say that is a pretty decent package there. it boots way faster, so that is a plus in my book. PRESTO was *the* feature for me .... but it will not make it to F11 unfortunately. deltarpms will not be available for GA. ext4 is also pretty fast. but if your system is running fine and you dont want to live on the edge, you could sit F11 out or at least wait until a respin. F10 will get 2.6.29 as an update as well so.

Given that, is there a cleaner, easier way to get all my current software installed after an upgrade? If I have a long list of items that weren't part of the original install, can I automate the installation such that I'm not spending days getting everything in place?

What software were those? Were they available in the repositories?

Some are available in repositories, some are not. I gave a partial list in my initial post:

compiz, banshee, audacity, handbrake, codeblocks, ndiswrapper, etc.

I assume your suggestion is for those in the repositories yum install <package> suffices. For those not in repositories, keeping a list of installations and repeating the installations is the best option. Correct?

Hi,

Well, if is not in the repository, an upgrade would break it and you would have to rebuild it. The specific programs you mentioned are either in the repo already or in the package review queue in either Fedora or RPM Fusion, so it shouldn't be too much trouble doing a clean install if necessary. I personally used preupgrade to upgrade from Fedora 10 to the current rawhide and didn't run into anything major.

Thanks for the info. I'll do a little more research and possibly give it a try as F11 rolls out.
