FC2 dropping 80% of packets on laptop

I have a Sony PCG-630 w a 3com 575BT pcmcia card that worked well in FC1, I upgraded to FC2 and now networking has become unusable.

It is on a fixed IP

It drops between 50 to 100% of packets when pinging to the laptop or from the laptop. It pings its own IP OK The right modules seem to be loaded.

The same laptop performs correctly in Windows.

I just made a clean reinstall and it works perfectly now.

I suppose upgrading left some cruft in place that interfered with either the pcmcia or IRQ system, who knows
