The second test release of what will become Core 3 has been pushed out a week. Bill Nothingham of Red Hat says:

"Due to various issues with candidate trees so far, Test 2
has been pushed out one week, to September 20th."

This means the Core 3 release has been pushed out one week as well. Core 3 is now scheduled for 1. november.

Updated schedule is at: http://fedora.redhat.com/participate/schedule/

Sorry, forgot about this, but I've asked around and the verdict is:

The transfer of Fedora Core 1 to Fedora-Legacy (www.fedoralegacy.org) is tied to the release of Test 2. So yes, this means the support for Core 1 is extended.
