Hello,
First off im sorry if this has already been posted, I seen similar topics, but not my exact problem.

Im having the hardest time installing drivers for my Nvidia geforce 6150 go. I got the correct drivers right off the nvidia site. However, I cannot even attempt to install them, because It says I need to shut off X first. and I cant get xorg to shut off in fedora 10. Ctrrl-alt-f1 or f2, f3, f4 do nothing now. Literally nothing. Ctrl-alt-Backspace takes me right to the login screen.

I also cannot get mp3 files to play at all. I tried following a guide for gstreamer and it just says no packages found. There is a ton of stuff like that, that should be in package manager that isn't there. All of this was there for me in fedora 8.

I am also working on trying to get my wireless card (Broadcom BCM4311) working, and that isnt working out either.

Can anyone help me please?
Thanks a lot in advance :)

If you want to stop the X server, issue the command telinit 3
For the gstreamer issue i think you'll have to install the gstreamer plugins like gst-plugins-ugly from the livna repository.
I think there are native Linux drivers for Broadcom 4311 now but you can continue using ndiswrapper. To do so you'll need the Windows drivers for your wireless card. Do you have those?

BTW, is this a Turion X2 based laptop ?

Have a look at the F10 instalation guide in my signature it covers the mp3 and nvidia questions. Do a search on here for 4311 or 43xx and you will find lots of threads on that wifi card.

Ok thanks a lot for the replies guys.

Yea its a turion x2

And I do not have the drivers for windows, but I can get them real quick.

How would I go about getting the gstreamer plugins from the livna repository.?

And ozjd Im gonna take a look at your guides right now

I took a linux class about a year ago, but since then I have not really touched linux, so I forgot a lot of stuff.

Thanks a lot

Your guide for nvidia drivers is very good, and seems to be working fine.
However, I got to the part to download rpm fusion from command line, and you said to do this:

su -c 'rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm'
su -c 'rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm'
su -c 'rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-rpmfusion-*'

Upon entering the first one, I receive this error:

[Nick@Nick ~]$ su -c 'rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm'
Password:
Retrieving http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
curl: (6) Couldn't resolve host 'download1.rpmfusion.org'
error: skipping http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm - transfer failed

It seems as if maybe that download link does not work anymore? is there a way around this?
Thanks a lot in advance

If this is for Fedora 10 there's no need to install the nvidia drivers, Google for Autoten, it will install everything you need... and maybe more.

Glad you found it useful. But it isn't my guide. I just provided a link to it as I found it a useful site.

It is possible that the rpmfusion download site is busy. You can go to rpmfusion.org and follow the links on the front page under the Users heading. It is a essential site as it has all the packages (well almost:D) that aren't in the Fedora repos.

Well autoten is doing the same thing as that guide. Only automatically. The download links were even the same. And they worked this time. I got all excited. But after like 5 min of downloading and stuff, It returned this long error:

I thought you were running F10 but you have rawhide (F11) packages there. Do you have the rawhide repos on? If so disable them but it may be too late if you have installed a number of F11 packages.

Yea, I am on fedora 10,
I have no clue how that even happened.
Ho do i disable the rawhide repos?

For a GUI way go to add / remove software then system and then software sources. Uncheck everything but Fedora, Fedora updates, RPMFusion free and non free and both RPMfusion updates. Don't have rawhide or testing checked. That won't remove the F11 packages you have though. Someone else may have an easy way to do that.
