A simple question --

Is it possible to run dmraid early enough so that a volume on the RAID system can be mounted by fstab?

If not, how else might one get the system seeing the volumes on a RAID system early enough to get the same effect?

I have no problem running dmraid and mounting volumes on the RAID system, I just want to be able to do it early enough so that the volume can be mounted along with the other volumes listed in fstab.

Thank you, I had got that far.

What I wanted to do was to put my /usr directory on a partition in the RAID drive, however, I can't get 'dmraid -ay' to load soon enough.

This is what I did to get it working

You have to check your log /var/log/dmesg to see if its the same issue; which I think it is.
Let me know if you need more help.
Just to let everyone know; I'm working with Adaptec and Supermicro to try to get a GPL release of the firmware file.

Thank you, but I think I have found the problem.
I found this on download.nvidia.com --
2.6.x kernel unbootable on some systems

There is a bug in the 2.6.x kernel MP table handling that prevents install and OS boot on some systems. At the time of writing, the only nForce systems known to trigger this kernel bug are nForce4 MP systems.

This bug causes memory corruption upon detection of any PCI bus numbered higher than 32, and consequently renders the system unusable very early in the install or boot process. On some systems, leaving ACPI on during boot fixes this problem.

There are currently no known workarounds for this problem, but a kernel patch for it has been accepted and is expected to be included in future distribution releases.

Guess what my MB is...

If you can post a link to your smolt profile it would help; otherwise no one has any idea what your configuration is and if this applies to you; also would have to look at your log file /var/log/dmesg to see if your controller is loading; otherwise we can't help you much.
