Hey guys, I just got a new hp pavillion dv4 and I cant hear a thing. I'm sure its not muted, and I've tried every option in the sound controller (switching from alsa to oss to pulsaudio etc) I've also tried alsaconfig and nothing happens. Alsaunmute returns
"Unknown hardware: "HDA-Intel" "IDT 92HD71B7X" "HDA:111d76b2 HDA:11c11040" "" ""
Hardware is initialized using a guess method"
According to lspci I have a ATI RS780 Azalia sound card. Any ideas? Thanks a lot !

I think I may have found the problem! I ran alsa-info and it said that theres a newer version of alsa. How would I install it? I tried yuming it but it didnt work

Check all the sliders in KMix? Master/Front/PCM. I say this because at one time I was having a prob like that and then remembered. Sure enough, the vol was up but the PCM slider was off - DOH!

I get the same Unknown hardware string when I issue alsaunmute and alsa-info gives me the option to update to a newer version as well. My sound is all working. I know thats not a solution but its more info for you.

My backend is Xine and all outputs are set to PulseAudio.

Is it all apps that have no sound?

I'm having a similar issue.

I have one sound card, a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy, and an integrated SigmaTel/HDA Intel set, neither work. Everything is unmuted, and all volume is up. Using some of the PulseAudio tools, I've found that pulse is picking up sound, but it's just not being played through my speakers. I know it's not the speakers though, because sound works flawlessly in windows, and they worked on the previous Fedora 10 install I had (which was an upgrade from 9, which worked fine).
