not sure what the issue is but every kernel update since the first kernel after a fresh f11 alpha install has given me a blank screen on bootup. the blank screen usually happens after the progress bar portion of the bootup. so i keep using the original f11 alpha kernel. the same problem has happened with the beta release. the gnome live disc gives me a blank screen as does the install dvd. i have an nvidia geforce 9600m gt graphics card. i would like to file a bug report but would like to file it to the right people. does this sound like a kernel issue or an x11 nouveau issue?

I also have a HP Dv7 (1285x) and Fedora 10 works exceptionally well, but I tried the Alpha and Beta release of 11 and got no graphical representation. The best part is that when I go through the Live DVD install my wireless card turns on but I have no way of looking at anything.:eek::confused:

on another note, have you been able to get the onboard microphone working?

are you saying it works if you use an up to date Rawhide but with an old kernel? If so, it seems likely that the issue is in the kernel.

Jerboyd, I have not had ANY success with the onboard mic. I cannot even use JACK to sync the vkeybd to any Synth's.

i've kept the system up to date but with every update the kernel gives me the blank screen so i need to reboot using the original f11 alpha kernel. i guess that makes sense that it's the kernel because if it was x11 than it wouldn't work with any kernel. thanks, i'll file a bug report.

I am going to wait for F11 final release....I have a great setup with Fedora 10 right now and I figure with some more tweaks I'll be able to get my mic and JACK working

i just got the internal mic to work by trying a new kernel from koji. it is kernel 2.6.29-10.fc10.x86_64. the only downside is that the desktop switcher only shows one desktop so multiple desktops won't work with this kernel. it wouldn't hurt to try it out though, you can get it here http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=95672
good news for all hp dv7 users.

What driver ?, have you tried vesa?

not sure how to change drivers at the grub boot menu. i did try adding vesa to my boot options if that's what you mean but the same problem happened.

Add 3 to the boot options i.e runlevel 3 then create/edit xorg.conf

I think adding a device section will be enough

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "vesa"
EndSection

thanks leigh.

will xorg.conf be overwritten if i choose to install the proprietary nvidia drivers?

so i booted up with the vesa driver and thought i'd try setting up the proprietary nvidia drivers. after a restart the system boots just fine. i guess it's a nouveau thing. one more bug report coming up.

can you link to the report(s) you filed so I can triage them? thanks.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=493494

i reassigned it to xorg-x11-drv-nv and added comments about vesa and the proprietary nvidia driver
