I just installed FC2, and there are a few things I'm having trouble with.

First, I can't find the Desktop Switching Tool, and I don't know where any files are to edit which Desktop loads up. I like to switch back and forth between gnome and KDE.

Secondly, in gnome, when I open a new folder, it opens to a new window... I'd prefer to open in the same window. I can find anything to change that, and again I don't know what file to edit to change that.

I am fairly new to Linux so I basically don't know where any config files or where anything is yet. So any help should probably be in the form of talking to me like I know nothing... lol

Thanks for any help.

1: in KDE it is under Pref's, under Gnome i don't remember. At the login screen you can switch also, you'll want the "sessions" button

Actually, I like to use the text login... I feel more comfortable with it 'cause that's how I started with Linux.

And where is KDE? I don't know what you be under Pref's... if you mean in the menu, I don't see it.

Also, thanks for the thread link, it helped big time. :-)

for move back and forward from gnome, kde and others managers try to cast a look in "preferences"/"desktop switching tool" (you see prefs pushing the red hat button on the left bottom of the scrren).

for the behaviour of folders right click a folder and choose explore (just like windows).

Umm... I do believe I said I can't find the Desktop Switching Tool... I upgraded from FC1, so I have a fairly good idea of how things work with respect to the menus and such.

Also, for the record I'd like to say that I fixed the Spacial View problem. Thanks to Thoreau and the other thread. :-)

I managed to switch to KDE without the Desktop Switching Tool, I used the switchdesk command in the terminal...

switchdesk KDE

It worked nicely and what's even better, is you can choose your desktop easily right from logging in if you use the text login like I do.

And I must say the new KDE looks awsome and is great.

I think the desktop switching tool is not installed as default. You may find it on the disks.
