Hello,

I downloaded the iso's for FC2 from mirrors.kernel.org, and verified the MD5SUM's and all. Well, when I get to the point of the install where it actually starts to install packages...it crashes on me and says

"install exited abnormally"

I have tried installation in text mode also...but it does the same thing. I read that it could possibly be an issue with X and mice?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

It is indeed a problem with mice and X.
Do you get an XIO error ?

If so, dont move the mouse till
the splash screen comes up.
This happens only when you move
the mouse while X is being loaded during
install.

They should provide a workaround for
this soon. But this works.

Thanks. I'll check on the error, and see if I got what you specified above. I also heard of seting the "noprobe" option at the boot: prompt. I am going to try that and see if that helps also.

FYI...I have a Micro$oft Intellimouse (wheel, with the "la-ser").

Well...Here's a "work around" that I did becuase I wanted to upgrade my system so bad.

I installed a minimal image of Fedora Core 1, then installed Apt. I copied all of the RPM's from my Fedora Core 2 cd's to my local HD, specified the local apt repository, ran "apt-get dist-upgrade", and everything went fine once it finished.

Now i'm running FC2...but I still would like to do a "fresh" install sometime, so hopefully I can find a fix as to why i'm having this problem with the installation bombing.

you can use grub to install from your HD. Check out the top of page 2 with this thread.

I was getting the same error. I believe the issue was this very old Samtron monitor. I then tried the installation without specifying the monitor (unknown monitor) and the installation completed as expected. Once installation completed I edited the xorg.conf, and I am able to view my screen with 1024x768 resolution. Previously every time I tried to specify the monitor as 800x600 generic monitor the installation would bomb.
