Hi all! I recently downloaded and successfully installed Fedora Core 2 on my Gateway m500 laptop. Everything installed fine except for two small things: The LCD dispaly isn't fully supported, and for some reason, it is recognizing my wireless card, but for some reason can't use it. My laptop specs can be found http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gateway/M500/3501654nv.shtml there. I would love to have it fully supportive of all my hardware. Any suggestions?

1. you have a nvidia video card and need to install drivers for that follow this link and after installing driver your display may be better and also try redhat panel >Preferences >Screen resolution:
http://www.fedorafaq.org/#nvidia

2. what brand of wireless card are you using? is not listed in the specs.....integrated?

The wirelss card, I believe, is ORiNOCO Integrated. 802.11b. You wouldn't believe the trouble I went through to find that, LOL

was your video card detected during istallation? or are you using a generic driver?

open terminal and type: system-config-display and see if you can configure it from there.

It's using a generic video card, it just doesn't support my lcd's native resolution, which is 1280 by 854.

do a www.google.com/linux search

I have a Gateway too, nowhere near as nice as yours though. When I installed fedora on mine, my video-card was having difficulties showing more than 800x600 res. I checked the default driver and switched from generic CRT to LCD and chose my desired resolution, rebooted and voila... Works pretty good.

Use my suggestion as an 'if all else fails' option, I am sure that others have more accurate ways to fix things, mine is more a general 'hope this helps' option :)

Regards.

Alrighty, I've traced the problem using numerous google searches: Nvidia drivers won't install because of binutils not being installed. I downloaded, tried to install that, wouldn't work, traced the problem to not having gcc. Downloaded gcc, but I have absolutely no idea how to compile or install it. All the instructions I find are way beyond my level, which is very high, I might add. Any suggestions?
