The grub can not use ext4. (The Ubuntu-9.04 alphas have a grub patch to boot from ext4. But Fedora said it was not inclusive enough.and that is why they are not using it.)

grub2 is not ready for any release let alone a default.

As far as ext4 as default in Fedora meant that the intent was to create the default on the main LogVolume as ext4.
ext4 was also in the custom drop down box to select for manual partitioning., except for /boot, however the LiveCD build had an problem and the ext3 was used by default.

This issue of ext4 on /boot has had way to much bandwidth paid to it.
As there are very valid reasons for having a separate /boot partition to hold the kernel info and grub.
And because this is so small (200MB to 320MB) it can be ext3. Debian still defaults it to ext2 (bad practice but hey, they are slow to catch on.)

BTRFS has made the promise to be bootable, as well as ext4 being bootable but don't hold your breath as it could take a long time.
grub is not being developed, grub2 is, but very slow. Then it needs to change to read all the newer file systems.

as i thought, i think i mentioned in another thread that the feature listed should have had a ? beside it, the question is really, whether grub2 will even be ready till atleast Fedora14 or will Fedora just work on getting a new boot loader

Yes, it's clearly mentioned in the release notes for F11 at present. (I like to think it's due to my nagging.) If you want ext4 you have to have to the separate boot partition.

FWIW, the Ubuntu grub is working fine for me, however, putting in the extra /boot partition isn't a big deal. Shucks, I did a fresh install last night, and don't remember if it went to ext3 for the main partition or if it was just at ext4--I'm pretty sure I had to choose ext4 from the dropdown box.

Is your short term memory not updating your long term sticky rods? :)

ext4 on LVM default LV for / is on the F11 dvd.
ext4 is in the custom install dropdown box (except it will not allow it on /boot)

/boot ext 3
/ ext4
/usr ext4
/var ext4
/temp ext4
/home ext4
/srv ext4
/var/log/audit ext4
/var/temp ext4

I don't know any more mount points
