I'm using fedora 10. kernel:
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Feb 23 13:00:23 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
here is the problem:
$ pam_fprint_enroll -f 8
This program will enroll your finger, unconditionally overwriting any selected print that was enrolled previously. If you want to continue, press enter, otherwise hit Ctrl+C
No devices detected.
and lshal output is attached.

No fingerprint reader on that list.
What exact fingerprint reader are you using?

I'm using a dell latitude e6500 with service tag HH7M34J. The fingerprint is "PALMREST : UPEK SWIPE FINGERPRINT READER" which can be seen here : http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/en/details?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

It does not appear to be detected by your system.
I have a UPEK fingerprint reader on my Dell XPS that works fine with ThinkFinger or libfprint, but ThinkFinger is a bit better IMHO. It shows up under the lsusb output.
I'd recommend posting more details on your reader, the link you posted doesn't work. Confirm the device is attached and functional. What are it's device and/or usb numbers (ie: vid/pid)?

Using F11 problem persists, it seems that fprint team is working on it as the device is too new ;)
