Now that is funny, definately one of those situations where he may have wanted to think first before saying anything he might regret.

Could be a great tag line "Mozilla Firefox: As used by Microsoft" :D

Yeah IE and sp2 are like a virus and spyware combo. Sp2 is really really bad

lol, that's good news :D

But what I am wondering: most of the firms have firm policies on software, so you can only use IE. Why doesn't Microsoft do? Or is the security chief breaking a firm policie ? :D

The way free software is changing the world, one of these days, Microsoft employees will start showing up in the forums looking for help with their Fedora boxes...

Well this isn't the first time M$ blew up their own OS. Win2000 I believe it was SP2 or 3 killed a normally working W2k box when it was installed. Glad I'm getting the hang of Linux :)

Wait a couple days, Microsoft will announce a huge security flaw with SP2 and it will have to be rewritten. (Unless they announced it today)

Lets not get too excited. After all, some kernel upgrades have been causing problems in fc :(

Shadow Skill
17th September 2004, 12:24 AM
Well that is a Kernel update..its not quite the same, especially when Windows does not officially have an unstable version. FC is after all a proving ground. (that is more stable in terms of software crashing and such than xp, in my experience. Granted I do not use FC as much as I use windows.) I don't think you would run a bussiness on FC2, at least I wouldn't. I would go with a less bleeding edge as some put it flavor.

Having Sp2 blow up an otherwise working install of XP is a far different beast, than having a Kernel update blow up a bleeding edge distro's setup. (Both suck, it's just that M$ shouldn't have such a problem at all by the time they release the product...)

superbnerd

fedora is not bleeding edge, its cutting edge. it cuts you. your the one to bleed, not it :D
about running a business one it. I know of a few large businesses that use fc1, granted fc1 is much more stable than fc2 due to its use of the kernel series, but such instabilities should not be acceptable for fc2 just as they are not acceptable for xp. there's a fine line between bleeding and cutting edge.

Off topic. I really couldn't help but do this. Both Shadow Skill and supernerd are right. From what I understand, FC2 is cutting edge and FC3T1 is bleeding edge. :D

Bleeding edge is a term that refers to technology that is so new (and thus, presumably, somewhat buggy) that the user is required to risk reductions in stability and productivity in order to use it.

Cutting edge is a term used to describe the creations of the small number of persons or groups who are at the frontier of progress in a field, especially science. For instance, cutting edge technology refers to technology that is the most advanced and most original technology available at the time.
