hi everyone,
i have got an acer aspire one, which has a built in webcam, everything worked fine (skype, messenger were excellent) until i have made some updates through live update facility. since that time my webcam isnt working properly, the issues are:
1. i use skype, messenger and i was only able to see my video only, but not the other computers,
2 later i cant see my video on skype, etc. and my contacts only see a black picture in skype
3. if i only check webcam through application (like capture ) working fine. cant see any probs.
could somebody pls help me,??:eek: i dont want to go back to windoz :mad:

something that i forgot to mention: since i have this problem with webcam i have noticed if im changing quickly between windows the screen became a bit frozen (striped) as it would not be able to follow the changes
i would really appreciate if somebody could give me a help

You can try to boot up in the older kernel to see if it works fine. If not working under the kernel it worked under before then the app must have been updated. You may need to revert back to them to resolv it.

dear Brian,
thanx for the answer, but im new to linux. could u pls specify how can i boot up in the older kernel?
however i have a recovery dvd, and just thinking if i put this on a usb stick (which i make bootable) will i roll back all the changes that i have made and set up the factory settings ?

When the grub boot menu pops up try to select the older kernel. As far as restoring older app versions that is going to be using the rpm command to restore the older versions. If this is the first update you did then I recommend a fresh reinstall. Then if you update select items one at a time that can be done to see if and when issues come up. It may have issues downgrading because other apps and libriarys require newer rpms. It is a battle to mantain systems like this for specific apps like the ones you have. Usually things like amsn and skype may work better if you download the latest source file and compile them yourself. Can be more stable than some of the precompiled rpm released files.
