Hy there,

I'm running a Full-HD LCD TV on my Nvidia 6600GT over VGA. But my problem is that I can only get a max. resolution of 1024x768 and that looks pretty bad (with the Nvidia-Settings Tool).
If I try to set it up with the standard Fedora-Tool (System->Preferences->Hardware) I can get 1152x864.
BUT: everything above that is not accepted (black screen, etc...).

The interesting thing is that I can run my 22" monitor on 1680x1050 without a problem at all over VGA. (And with the 22" on DVI, I can even attach a 17" on VGA)
So it shouldn't be a problem on the Computer-Hardware side, right?

Is there a way to get more out of that TV?

BTW: Could it be because of some kind of copy-protection?

Thanks!

Try:

su -
yum install system-config-display
system-config-display

Many TVs won't accept full resolution via the VGA input.

My suspicion is that they cheap out on the ADC (analog-digital converter) by buying a low-spec model which can't handle anything past 1024x768. Or it could be intended as some kind of anti-piracy measure (trying to stop you circumventing HDCP on an HDMI connection by using an analog connection), I guess.

In any case, what you need in this case is to do the connection via DVI or HDMI. So I hope your card supports that. If not, you'll need a new one.

You can confirm if this is the issue just by looking at the TV manual. It should explicitly list what resolutions it accepts over which inputs. Mine (Toshiba) specifically states that it only accepts up to 1024x768 over the VGA input.
