The problem seems different from those already in this forum.
I have FC2 successfly installed on VMware 4.5.2. Everything is fine except that I cannot get a correct resolution. The relevant sections in xorg.conf are listed below:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "vmware"
VendorName "VMware, Inc"
ModelName "LCD Panel 1024x768"
HorizSync 31.5 - 48.5
VertRefresh 40.0 - 70.0
ModeLine "640x480" 100.0 640 700 800 900 480 500 600 700
ModeLine "800x600" 100.0 800 900 1000 1100 600 700 800 900
ModeLine "1024x768" 100.0 1024 1100 1200 1300 768 800 900 1000
ModeLine "1152x864" 100.0 1152 1200 1300 1400 864 900 1000 1100
ModeLine "1152x900" 100.0 1152 1200 1300 1400 900 1000 1100 1200
ModeLine "1280x1024" 100.0 1280 1300 1400 1500 1024 1100 1200 1300
ModeLine "1376x1032" 100.0 1376 1400 1500 1600 1032 1100 1200 1300
ModeLine "1600x1200" 100.0 1600 1700 1800 1900 1200 1300 1400 1500
ModeLine "2364x1773" 100.0 2364 2400 2500 2600 1773 1800 1900 2000
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "VMware SVGA"
Monitor "vmware"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

However, the resulting resolution is larger than 1024x768. It is actually 1152x768, which can be seen from Preferences-> Screen Resolution. This is quite weird to me, since 1152x768 is not supported due to my configuration shown above. And due to this problem, I cannot use the full screen mode in VMware.

How could I solve this problem and make the actual resolution to 1024x768?

I'm not sure of the answer, but one suggestion is to try commenting out the ModeLine lines and see if the monitor can figure out the correct parameters by itself.
